Random Acts of Kindness Day 2023
When was the last time you did something for the greater good? Not because it would make you look good, not because you would feel guilty if you didn’t, not because it would get you views, likes and shares, but because you wanted someone else to feel good. When was the last time you performed a random act of kindness?
Researchers have proven over and over that doing an act of kindness stimulates the functions that produce serotonin, which would make you think that people believe humanity is kind at heart. Yet people have still lost faith in humanity. With access to the news and social media, we are all a few clicks away from all things that are negative. Why would people believe society is kind when all we see is the hurt it poses to others? Let’s change that! Instead of feeding into the negativity, lean into your inner child, the child who always wanted to ask everyone about their day. This child would meet someone and become best friends within the same day, the child who would perform random acts of kindness without thinking about how they may be perceived, or what they may gain from it.
When thinking about how you can make a difference, ask yourself, what would my inner child do? People often think about grandiose gestures; paying for someone's food shop or donating vast amounts of money to a charity, when in reality, all people need is a simple, “Good morning, how are you?”. Don’t underestimate what a small act of kindness can do for someone. A little goes a long way.
If you want to make an impact in the world and don’t know how or where to start, here are 7 acts of kindness you can try today that could mean a lot to someone and restore their faith in humanity.
-
- Give someone a compliment.
- Give someone a recommendation on LinkedIn.
- Offer to help a neighbour.
- Send someone flowers.
- Donate unused toys and blankets to a charity.
- Give up your seat on the bus or train.
- Donate used books to schools and libraries.
Choose a random act of kindness to try today and pass this blog forward. Let’s make the world a better place, one random act of kindness at a time.
