Assistant Team Manager - Children's Services (Non‑Case Holding)

Locum / Temporary

Locations: Hart & Rushmoor or East Hants

Rate: £42 per hour
Contract: Locum / Temporary
Working Pattern: Hybrid working

Hampshire County Council is recruiting an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join their Children's Services teams in Hart & Rushmoor or East Hants. This is a non‑case holding role, focused on supervision, quality assurance and supporting front‑line practice.

About the Role

As Assistant Team Manager, you will support the Team Manager to ensure consistency, quality and safe decision‑making across the team. You will provide supervision, oversight of complex work, and day‑to‑day operational support, helping to retain experienced practitioners in frontline roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise social workers and practitioners within the team
  • Quality assure assessments, reports, plans and court documentation
  • Chair and attend statutory meetings
  • Provide consultation and guidance on complex safeguarding cases
  • Assist with workflow management and prioritisation of cases
  • Contribute to service development and performance improvement
  • Deputise for the Team Manager when required
  • Ensure practice complies with statutory guidance, policy and procedure

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker (DipSW / Degree or equivalent)
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Significant experience within Children & Families frontline services
  • Previous experience in a senior / management or advanced practitioner role
  • Strong safeguarding decision‑making and supervisory skills
  • Confident working autonomously in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to work across Hart & Rushmoor or East Hants on a hybrid basis
