Why is it important to love your job?
How do you feel each morning when you wake up? Are you dreading the day ahead, or jumping out of bed because you have a job that you love?
Each and every one of us is motivated by different things, however, when it comes to work, there needs to be a huge drive and inspiration to get through those long days. After all, we do spend an average of 84,171 hours at work during our lifetimes (that’s 3,507 days!), according to a recent Independent article.
Getting up every day to go to work can only be powered by how much you love your job. Unfortunately, there are many people who do not love their job and being miserable at work can affect an array of things, from work life to personal life.
Here are 5 important reasons to love what you do...
- Less Stress, Better Health
Try not to over-work, take your work home, or worry about your work too much in your personal time. Consistent negative thoughts can cause serious harm to the body both physically as well as mentally and this can get in the way of being a productive employee. However, if you work a job that you enjoy, this can help keep your stress levels down considerably and have a positive effect on your mindset.
Coming home from a stressful and negative day can not only affect you, but it can also affect nearly everyone around you. Stress can have a knock-on effect on your personality and the way you come across when spending time with others. You may become irritable and short-tempered. It’s never fair to take out your bad mood on friends and family. Whereas if you are in a job you love, your good mood will easily be transferred to those around you and spread a more positive attitude all around.
- You may not grow in your career
The less motivated you are, the worse your performance will be at work. This can result in little chance of promotion, slow growth in your career and can even affect how well you learn and your willingness to approach new challenges. If you are in a job that you enjoy every day, you are more likely to be productive and push yourself to do well, consequently progressing in your career. Colleagues and managers will also notice this, meaning you’ll be appreciated and respected, and are again more likely to progress and be promoted.
- You will never be fulfilled in a job you loathe
If you are spending the majority of your time doing something you don’t enjoy, you will always feel as though you could be doing something else, more worth your time. If you spend your days staring at the clock waiting for time to pass by, living for the weekend, it is not the best way to spend your life. However, if you find a career that you love, you’ll find that the days fly by! As the quote goes ‘work to live, don’t live to work!’.
- You deserve it!
The most important reason why you should pursue a job that you love is because everyone deserves to be happy, especially you! Life goes by quickly and you should try and spend your time being positive and enjoying every moment you can.
