What it means to be part of the Charity Team at Connect2StaffBack
I have always been passionate about working with charities in the past, especially the MS society due to my husband being a long-term sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis, highlighting to me how important the support of charities can be. Unfortunately, for most of us, it is sometimes not until you know someone with a condition that you learn about the effects and then the importance of listening to appreciate the care that is provided by these amazing charities.
During the last few months, I have had the pleasure of working together as a team here at Connect2Staff in the charity committee, recently working together to raise money for Heart of Kent Hospice, hosting a World Cup-themed bake sale and raffle which raised £685.55 for the charity! Connect2Staff have previously supported them in a sponsored Sky Dive and a Charity Football match. This is a charity that I had not worked with before personally, so was interested to hear about what they do and how they provide help and support across Kent.
Since I started in the charity team, I have learnt that Heart of Kent Hospice is a charity who provide specialist end-of-life care for people facing the challenge of a terminal illness and support for their families.
This is a wonderful charity, local to us in Kent, and while talking to people about our event, I discovered just how many people have been moved by their work and speak so highly of the difference they made to the lives of loved ones.
We all have something or someone in our lives that impacts us and perhaps we should remember to talk, share and embrace the needs of others around us. The power of listening and putting others first, even if just for a few hours, is huge and could make the difference to someone’s day.
We currently have 5 members of staff at Connect2Staff who contribute to a wider charity committee within the Commercial Services Group. Our chosen company charities are Heart of Kent Hospice, Kent Air Ambulance and Cancer Research.
We’d love to hear about your fundraising activities or if you are supporting the same charities as us!
Here are a few images from the World Cup-themed day, including raffle prizes, football shirts and the winner of the bake-off (our Secondary Education Consultant, Keith Jackson!)
