Education Blog #2, Christmas Markets

Europe’s Top Five Christmas Markets

There isn’t much out there that can make you feel more festive at this time of the year than a Christmas Market. Whether it’s a weekend trip to Munich or a day trip to our very own Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, even the biggest Scrooges are bound to enjoy!

As a team we have listed what we believe are the top five Christmas markets in Europe; some of them we’ve been too and others we dream of going to!

5)     Bruges Christmas Market – Belgium

In 5th place, we have Bruges Christmas market based in Grote Mark. This particular market has an ice rink surrounded by dozens of picturesque wooden chalets that will fulfil all your Christmas gift needs! The market is shadowed by the well-known Belfry of Bruges, so would be a perfect option for visitors keen on seeing the sites.

4)     Stockholm Christmas Market – Sweden

In 4th we have Stockholm’s Christmas Market in Sweden. Christmas in Stockholm is magical; if snow is what you want then this is the place to go. Each year, Stockholm is lit up across the city with bright lights and a huge Christmas tree! This market is contemporary yet traditional, with Swedish seasonal treats and much more.

3)      Bath Christmas Market – England

Now this is one we have visited! Bath Christmas markets are proudly based on the beautiful Georgian streets of Bath, and as you can imagine, the market is a busy and popular one so we’d advise to visit on a weekday morning so you can have a good look around at everything on offer.  At this market you’ll find a range of pop up chalets offering everything from gifts and homeware, to clothing and accessories.

2)     Munich Christmas Market – Marienplatz Square, Germany

Coming in 2nd is the Christmas Market in Marienplatz Square, based right in the heart of Munich. This particular market is in a great central location meaning that there is a constant crowd creating plenty of noise and atmosphere! This market covers a surface area of 20,000 square metres, filled with craft stalls and plenty of places to eat and drink to your hearts content.

1)      Winter Wonderland – Hyde Park London

In 1st place for us it has to be Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park; this market creates a fun filled day perfect for families or couples. With so much to do at Winter Wonderland you’re bound to be impressed. From rollercoasters to a Christmas themed circus to Karaoke and cocktail bars, the list is endless! Along with all of this there are the traditional markets selling unique products perfect for gifts for your loved ones.

Have you visited any of these markets or even one we haven’t mentioned? Let us know – we’d love to hear your experiences!
